What you will learn?

This session invites participants to engage in a critical exploration of trauma-informed practice. Led by Dez Holmes, you'll delve deeper than the trendy term to understand the complexities of trauma itself.

We'll unpack definitions and various types of trauma, considering their potential impact on individuals and communities. The discussion will also explore the concept of structural and socio-economic trauma, challenging the tendency to solely focus on individual pathology.

Dez will shed light on current research around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), addressing the potential pitfalls of oversimplification and the allure of reductive neuroscience. The importance of participatory practice, where individuals with lived experience inform approaches to trauma, will be a key focus.

Looking beyond individual interactions, we'll explore the necessity of integrating trauma-informed practices across entire organisations. This session fosters respectful debate, creating a safe space for open dialogue and critical thinking.
