The keynote is focused on the power of relationships, highlighting what individuals can do to have a huge impact on the lives of children in the care system. This includes how to communicate with children effectively, how to see the messages in children behaviour and spotting triggers that can often cause trauma for children.

Two concepts are integrated into this speech to give the audience an analytical understanding of how systems can create negative perceptions of young people and be a barrier to a young person accessing opportunities such as education or employment.

The first concept is understanding the written content of profiles and referrals, often these can be written in a way that don’t display children in a realistic and true way, often leading to placements been rejected, schools unwilling to offer children a placement and creating negative perceptions of children in the workforce.
