This session introduces the concept of Violent Resistance (NVR) Parenting. This is the first of two online modules that support the face-to-face training sessions.

About the course

We are excited to work with you and think together about how it can be possible to love and care for the young people we are looking after when we are being faced with violent behaviours that can be really distressing.

This short module introduces the NVR stance you’ll be using on shift. It’s practical and beginner-friendly, by the end you’ll have one line you can say in a hot moment and one small reconciling gesture to try this week.

Please complete this module before the first face-to-face training session and bring your reflections from this module to the live session.

What are we going to cover?

  • What to expect from the course
  • Describe the NVR stance (presence, non-escalation, delayed response, reconciliation).
  • Name the seven pillars and give one everyday example for each.
  • Prepare one de-escalation “cold-iron” line and one reconciliation gesture you will use this week.
